"Soft" separation method of objects from launch vehicle
The method is based on separation force application, generated by launch vehicle gas potential energy accumulator, installed on-board launch vehicle. Ejectors are used in order to separate objects from the launch vehicle. These ejectors are driven by energy which is generated by compression springs or pyro devices. When spring and explosive ejectors are actuated the loads on satellite and launch vehicle adapter may reach from 100 to 700 kgf. Authors of this project proposed a method decreasing the separation force generated by gas potential energy accumulator which is accomodated on launch vehicle board. The device for this method implementation comprises a gas potential energy accumulator and cushion displacement stops. The gas potential energy accumulator is a sealed elastic reservoir which consists of several layers. Each layer is a hollow cushion made of sealed material. These cushions are placed between bottom of the object and launch vehicle load-carrying surface and are limited by cylindrical surface.
